Dr. Lingyan Ruan
Incoming Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
[CURRENT] I am an incoming Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) at the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) , with a joint appointment in the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. My research explores how emerging technologies can support creative expression and creative practice. I am particularly interested in the design of interactive media, immersive technologies, and AI-driven systems that expand the ways people create, communicate, and experience digital content. Drawing on ideas from computer graphics, computer vision, mixed reality, and human-computer interaction, I aim to develop computational tools and interactive experiences that connect technology with art, design, and human creativity.
[Past] Before joining NTU, I was a Research Fellow at the School of Computing and Information Systems, University of Melbourne , and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Computer Graphics Department at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics . I received my Ph.D. from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong . I have published first-author papers in top venues such as SIGGRAPH/SIGGRAPH Asia (computer graphic), CVPR (computer vision), IEEE ISMAR (mixed reality), with my CVPR 2022 work recognized as a Best Paper Award Finalist (Top 0.4%). I actively contribute to the research community as a reviewer for over 20 leading conferences and journals, and have served on the program committees of Pacific Graphics and SIGGRAPH Asia.
